Guide to Unique Attractions in Sacramento, CA Sacramento is a town with a lot of character and personality. There’s something to do for every one who visits, regardless of your tastes. As part of that uniqueness, there are many hidden gems in Sacramento that are just fun places to visit. If you’re looking for some fun things to do as a couple, then consider visiting one of these attractions. Exploring can be a lot of fun, especially with these unique things to do in Sacramento. Crest Theatre Address: 1013 K St., Sacramento, CA Distance from us: 1.2 miles Events: https://www.crestsacramento.com/events/ Crest Theatre originally opened in 1912 as the Empress Theatre, later becoming the Hippodrome’s Theatre but its marquee suddenly fell in 1946, killing a bystander. Three years later, it reopened as the Crest Theatre, utilizing art deco architecture. It’s had a rocky history but has endured many of its hardships. It serves as a movie house as well as housing community events and concerts. The unique exterior design makes this Sacramento attraction a fun place to visit and pose for a picture. Tower Bridge Address: Capitol Mall spanning the Sacramento River Distance from us: 1.1 miles Tower Bridge serves as a connector between Sacramento and West Sacramento, spanning the Sacramento River. The bridge opened in 1935 and has been a mainstay in Sacramento since that time. Along with its historical background, Tower Bridge is also an idyllic structure that you can behold from the shores of the Sacramento River. The bridge also features a pedestrian path, allowing for a stroll across it. If one of your date ideas is to explore Sacramento, then be sure to make a stop at Tower Bridge. Downtown Ice Rink Address: 701 K St., Sacramento, CA Distance from us: 1.2 miles The Downtown Ice Rink sits in Ali Youssefi Square and is a seasonal operation. Whether you’re looking for something fun to do as a couple or to take the whole family, this ice rink is a great idea. Tickets are $13 per skater, $15 on holidays. Going ice skating is a great date idea for any visiting Sacramento and what better place to do it than in this outdoor ice rink amid downtown. Subtile By Frederico Diaz Address: River Walk Trail near intersection of Market and Riverfront streets Distance from us: 1.7 miles The River Walk Trail is a great date idea in Sacramento because it is home to many great sights. One of which is Subtile, a sculpture by Frederico Diaz. Diaz’s website said the sculpture aims to mimic local bushes and trees while mirroring the river. The sculpture stands at 14 feet and has a unique look and shape. Its design allows it to blend in with the natural surroundings, largely because of the use of mirrors. This is one of the top free things to do in Sacramento. Dragon House Address: 2816 22nd St., Sacramento, CA Distance from us: 2.2 miles One of the ways Sacramento has a unique identity is through its residential neighborhoods. In the Curtis Park neighborhood sits the Dragon House. It earned that nickname because of the mosaic dragon on its side. This home took 20 years to craft but the overall look is well worth it. This is a private home so please be respectful of the owners. That said, it’s definitely a top place to visit in Sacramento. Spirit of Sacramento Address: Near the corner of Garden Highway and Riego Road in West Sacramento Distance from us: 16.8 miles The Spirit of Sacramento is an abandoned snagboat on the shores of the Sacramento River. While it might not look like much, this old boat has lived an interesting life, setting sail in 1942 under the name Putah. Actor John Wayne then bought it in 1954, using it in his film Blood Alley. Wayne sold it and it started offering river tours until the 1990s under the name Mansion Belles. It then became the Spirit of Sacramento, hosting dinner cruises before a fire nearly destroyed it, partially submerging it. It was later pulled ashore to its final resting place. The boat is truly a hidden gem in Sacramento and is a fun place to visit. The boat sits on private property so you can view it from the road.
